Lake Dale Hollow: A Hidden Gem in Tennessee

When we think about Tennessee bass fishing, the first lakes that come to mind are Chickamauga, Cumberland, Old Hickory, and other notorious bass fishing lakes in the state. Lake Dale Hollow is typically known as a clear-water lake full of Largemouth Bass with Smallmouth Bass also. Read until the end of this blog to see How Revital Outdoors Premium CBD products can assist with your next trip to Lake Dale Hollow.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing on Lake Dale Hollow

Spring is when the state of Tennessee typically sees a lot of rainfall, and this is what really triggers the best fishing on Lake Dale Hollow. When the spring rains come, the lake tends to experience more current flowing out of the river and dirtier water. The Smallmouth Bass are known to pack tightly in large schools on main lake point and current breaks coming from the river. They are typically seen relating closely to points and current breaks that are adjacent to spawning areas. So, if an angler is looking at a map of Lake Dale Hollow and locates a spawning flat near main lake points that are bumped up against the river channel, they have run into the pot of Skittles at the end of the rainbow.

Color Patterns for Bait

Like many other lakes, Lake Dale Hollow has a strong population of crawfish. So, in the early spring, the crawfish pattern colors dominate. Anglers will want to relate to the colors of red, brown, orange, and green pumpkin to relate to the crawfish in Lake Dale Hollow. Red is probably the most dominant color. Red crankbaits, chatterbaits with red and orange, and jigs with red and orange can present great bites on Lake Dale Hollow.

Red Crankbait

As we stated above, one of the most dominant baits on Lake Dale Hollow in Tennessee in the early spring is a red crankbait. Many anglers have had great success throwing squarebills, such as the 1.5 squarebills in a Delta Craw or Spring Craw pattern. The beauty of a squarebill is it darts and deflects off cover very well, creating an irresistible action to both Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass. It’s recommended to throw a squarebill on a 14-pound fluorocarbon line. This is a little heavier line that what anglers would normally throw a crankbait on, however with fishing a squarebill near rock and bumping against the brush associated to the main lake point, the heavier line insures when fish do bite, the anglers will be able to get to them the boat.

Flipping Jig

The next bait that’s successful with on Lake Dale Hollow in Tennessee is flipping a jig. Anglers will generally relate to flipping wood in the early spring. The Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass are relating to wood this time of year because of the crawfish. Crawfish live in wood, and therefore attract the bass. With the dirty water seen on Lake Dale Hollow in the springtime, color selection is again red, brown, and orange; but anglers will also flip a jig in black and blue. In the springtime, anglers have the best luck throwing a “chunk” style trailer on their jigs. These styles of trailers have little, to no action; but with the springtime and cold water, bass will typically prefer slower actions in trailers.

These are just a few insights and bait suggestion for anglers competing in tournaments in the early springtime on Lake Dale Hollow. Smallmouth Bass is the predominant species weighed in at tournaments on Lake Dale Hollow, however the anglers that can find that one Largemouth Bass bite throughout their day, find themselves having a better bag than the rest of the competition.
